Voting Assistance Officer (VAO) Training
The Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) offers workshops for two different groups, one for Voting Assistance Officers (VAOs) in the Department of Defense, and another for VAOs in the Department of State.
The training covers VAO responsibilities, describes the absentee voting process, and the resources available to conduct a successful voting assistance program. The training explains how to complete the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) and the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot (FWAB).
DoD Directive 1000.4, section 5.2.1.15, requires all VAOs to complete either a FVAP/Service-provided workshop or the online training available below. Upon completion VAOs will receive a certificate of completion that should be placed in their VAO continuity folder.
In-Person Workshops
FVAP workshops are held at military installations and U.S. Embassies and Consulates worldwide. Training can also be provided by Installation Voting Assistance Officers or other trained VAOs. No workshops are currently scheduled. The schedule of workshops for the 2012-2013 Election Cycle will be available by January 2012.
