Workshops and Training
The Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) provides training workshops for Voting Assistance Officers (VAOs) worldwide. We offer workshops for two different groups, one for VAOs in the Department of Defense, and another for VAOs in the Department of State, as well as VAOs in U.S. overseas citizen organizations and corporations.
The training covers VAO responsibilities, describes the absentee voting process, and the resources available to conduct a successful voting assistance program. The training explains how to complete the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) and the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot (FWAB).
DoD Directive 1000.4, section 5.2.1.15, requires all VAOs to complete either a FVAP/Service-provided workshop or the online training available below. Upon completion VAOs will receive a certificate of completion that should be placed in their VAO continuity folder.
In-Person Workshops
FVAP workshops are held at military installations and U.S. Embassies and Consulates worldwide. Training can also be provided by Installation Voting Assistance Officers or other trained VAOs. To find a workshop near you, contact your Service Voting Action Officer or FVAP directly.
Online Workshops
The training is currently available in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Powerpoint 2003 formats. If you do not have PowerPoint, you can download the free viewer from Microsoft's website. The Adobe Acrobat version requires Acrobat Reader 7.0 or higher to view. Get Adobe Reader
